Stray Thoughts

Printable Version | [eMail this article!] |

I have had some stray thoughts floating around my brain so I figure why not throw them out here and let folks kick them around.

Stray 1: Given the knowledge that the Shi'ites were likely to turn out in larger numbers than other groups, was the intent of the election to get a religious leaning government in Iraq? After all, having the Taliban in power in Afghanistan seemed beneficial to the powers that be - for a while. And certainly, the US has supported the House of Saud which enforces a Shari'a law.

Stray 2: Let's send all the neoconservatives, "true" conservatives, and radical "Christian" conservatives to Texas. Then we'll let Texas go ahead and secede from the Union. This comes from my frustration and growing horror at these folks showing up on talk and news shows saying that they have never gotten the opportunity to "run everything." I am constantly amazed by the undemocratic nature of such statements by folks who see themselves as "patriots." So give them Texas and let them go experiment with "their" way of running things. Now, I know there are folks in Texas who would not be happy with such a suggestion. So I propose a coordinating swaps between the "cons" outside of Texas with the more democratic folks inside of Texas. They can set up a "Christian" State and see how it works.

Stray 3 (Somewhat related to 2): Many folks thing the US really needs to go a different direction economically and environmentally. The standard response to suggesting a different course is "what do you have to put in its place?" Well we have fifty states. There are a lot of possibilities for experimentation.

Stray 4: Back to Iraq and the elections. Does the US want three states instead of one in Iraq?

Stray 5: Is the neoconservative plan aimed at bringing back the Cold War? I am watching the realignment of global alliances with growing concern. Russia is a major player, and so is China. In fact they are making growing alliances with each other. Then you have Russia aligning militarily with Iran. Hmm. And Pakistan having naval exercises with China. Hmm. Add to this the Bush plan to move ahead with a new generation of nuclear weapons and the stated policy of preemptive war and we have a fine kettle of fish (stinking to high heaven).

So there are a few strays. Take them in or throw them back on the street. Add your thoughts, or just skip this as part of my delusional rantings.
