I want to point you to an excellent article by Sherman Alexie an author and activist. The article is Relevant Contradictions. In this article he gives his predictions of a war with Iraq and the political consequences domestically and internationally - well worth the read!

While this is a great read - endeavouring to play the coyote-trickster to the current governmental agenda is a way to keep your sanity in the face of a sometimes overwhelming task - in my opinion we need to recognise that the democratic process has been hijacked, and "electing a perfect" anything is not going to ever happen as long as we have so much corruption within the system. As long as lobbyists purchase our politicians, and we have no viable alternatives, this is not a democracy any more than Saddam Hussein being "re-elected" constitutes a "people's choice" when his name was the sole ballot option. We need to surrender the illusion that calling the political parties by separate names means there is a credible difference in the policy-making agendas. Or that the president is the sole-decision maker -it's the players in the wings who are pulling all the strings!
