Oregonian Response to Poor Coverage of Downing Street Memo

Some of you, including myself, may have contacted the Oregonian about the poor coverage of the Downing Street Memo. The Public Editor for the Oregonian, Michael Arrieta-Walden, has an excellent piece in the Sunday Oregonian (page F1) Readers pillory press for lagging on memo story. I urge you to read it, as it addresses not only the Oregonian's coverage of the memo, but the broader corporate press as well. It is, in my opinion, a thoughtful and balanced piece of work.

I had contacted Mr. Arrieta-Walden regarding my concerns. I have now written to thank him for his commentary, and recommended that Oregonian, get ahead of the readers this time by reporting on the Cabinet Office paper: Conditions for military action. This document certainly reinforces what has been raised as the "questionable" interpretation of the Downing Street Memo.

Regardless, I appreciate the response of the Oregonian's Public Editor. If you have been among the throngs "pilloring" the paper, you might send Michael Arrieta-Walden your thoughts on his response as well.
