With pressures rising on US elected representatives to rein in the empire, now is a prime time to act. The question of the existence of Guantanamo, and the rights of those being held "in perpetuity," is being debated. The ACLU has a petition to Shut Down Guantanamo Bay and Secret Prisons -- And Restore Rights. They also have a petition at The Petition Site to Stop Extension of the U.S.A. P.A.T.R.I.O.T. Act. Take five minutes and take a stand for US honor and our constitutional protections.

CLOSE GITMO ! There are other facilites with trained personnel that are significantly better qualified to deal with P.O.W.s. It is imperative we are the standard bearer when it comes to humane treatment of non-combatants or whatever buzz word applies these days.
If we don't set a humane standard then how can expect the same in return; we should not become what we are SUPPOSE to be fighting against. John McCain a former POW (who I might add was not treated according to the Geneva Convention) also points out the importance of the USA standing for right thing, not just what we can or cannot get away with "legally". I urge all to join against this tradegy.
