Attention Student Activists

April 2-4, 2004 Portland State University in Portland, Oregon is hosting the STARC (Students Transforming and Resisting Corporations) Conference - Conference information and program.

The STARC Alliance builds power as youth and students to challenge a social and economic system that exploits resources while reinforcing privilege and oppression. By developing skills, confidence, and analysis, we are laying the foundation for a multi-racial, youth led resistance movement. Democracy and liberation should not be distant political ideals, but should be embodied in the ability of individuals and communities to exercise power over the conditions of their lives. We strive to work in solidarity with marginalized communities to win concrete changes through grassroots campaigns and direct action in order to deconstruct systems of oppression and transform the world in which we live.

If you are in the area, and have the time and interest, check it out.

I would love to go to this, but I feel already like I have too much schoolwork this weekend. No fewer than nine books to read this term!

I know what you mean, such is the life of a student (or a teacher), but I'm hoping they have a really good turn out. It is time for another strong student movement and this looks like a good coordinating point.
