Mark your calendars

Rebecca Howe, a former student of mine, is opening a new bookstore in the Sellwood District of Portland. The Grand Opening will be April 17, 2004. Below is the pertinent information:

KISS Books (Keep it Simple and Serene) is located at 8317 SE 13th Ave. Portland Oregon (503-292-2887) - this is 3 blocks south of the Sellwood Bridge on 13th Ave.

The Grand Opening will be at 6am with live music from noon to 3:00pm
(Normal spring hours are Tuesday-Sunday 6am-7pm; closed on Mondays)

There will be drawings for door prizes: $50 gift certificate to Portofinos, a 2 hour limo ride, and 2nd row seats to the Sara McLaughlin concert at the Rose Garden on 7/7/04. And the first 50 smiles will get a special treat.

KISS Books has both new and used books, and aims to be a gathering and educational space as well as a bookstore. A variety of non-credit courses through PCC are planned such as: nature journaling, poetry for children, and container gardens.

KISS is sponsoring a "Human Free Trade Act Barter Board" and "Homeless Barrel."

Rebecca is a good spirit and she is making KISS Books a special place indeed. I plan to show up for her Grand Opening and hope to see those of you from around my neck of the woods there.

Wonderful news! I love the name, and I have a load of books for a homeless bin that are in excellent condition. But the date! April 17th is the date of the Northwest Undergraduate Conference on Literature. Not that droves of people will be there, but many that would be interested in Rebecca's grand opening (such as me) will be attending the conference.

Ah well, I will make it a point to go there soon, and I'll mention how I heard about it. Good luck to Rebecca in this endeavor!

KISS is opening at 6am (if you are a real early bird). But please do drop by and check out the store when you have time after it's open.
