Iran - Getting Closer
The following is Douglas Davis from the Jerusalem Post, 11/21/04. Copied here under "Fair Use" for non-commercial purposes.
LONDON – Pentagon officials are said to be discussing possible military action to neutralize Iran's nuclear weapons threat, according to a report in London's Observer. US administration sources are quoted as saying that air strikes – "either by the US or Israel" – to wipe out Iran's fledgling nuclear program would be difficult because of a lack of clear intelligence about where key components are located.
Instead, sources quoted by the paper said the Pentagon is considering strikes in support of regime change, including attacks on the leadership, as well as on political and security targets
.
The new "modeling" at the Pentagon, with its shift in emphasis from suspected nuclear sites to political target lists, is said to be causing deep anxiety among officials in Britain, France, and Germany, who last week appeared to have negotiated a deal with Teheran to cease work that could contribute to a nuclear weapons program. But Washington is said to be skeptical about the deal.

FYI Only: Betting the Left
I lost 50$ when I bet a colleague that you would allow even a political operative a bit of sport and not delete what I had posted.
Politics and ideology aside, we only distinguish ourselves from the Left by the power we wield. We conclude that this is the mirror you folks on the left are incapable of looking into.
As a human being, I wonder what toll this takes on you folks physiologically, always dwelling and focusing on the negative, never seeing anything positive and wholesome in the Collective we all live in? Are you able to drop it, so to speak, and leave it behind when you go home at the end of the day or does it follow you home? We watch for this very carefully amongst our own ranks you know, and take rather strong measures to counter it in our work groups. I wonder if you do the same, or if you even have such a mechanism in your ranks?
I am betting another 50$ on this post by the way - don't let me down.
P.S. there won't be any war with Iran - they know they could win the arena of public opinion but could not recover from any damage we would inflict nor overcome their internal oppositional forces that would take to the streets if attacks were launched. It is a most tempting target, but my voice is in the minority camp, even though it would take but a few million dollars to send mujahadeen afghan mercenaries pouring across the border on Iran's left flank. Oh well....see rowan? there is something positive after all, isn't there?
Goesh,
For your information, you gave your word to not comment on this site. Instead, you not only commented, it was an abusive and degrading comment. I am quite tired to being harassed on my own site.
I know that you believe that this is like a video game with no rules attached and disembodied alter egos playing out their fantasies - saying anything they want without consideration for those who are on the receiving end. Well, I do not share that belief and refuse to run Uncommon Thought in that manner.
This is my "house" and I am responsible for what goes on here. That includes controlling unruly guests. That may entail deleting comments that I find offensive, moderating comments before they are posted, or banning certain commenters from the site entirely.
Understood and apologies extended for breaking my word. I had also agreed to comment only on the need/viability for a 3rd party, and broke that part of my word as well. I am entering a brief comment on the need/viability of a 3rd party in the Post regarding voter fraud.
Yeah Damn It...here I agreed with you on third party stuf and damned if you didn't drive me crazy with this "negative" comment stuff. It as usual is one of those comments that doesn't even deserve an answer as I don't agree with the premise of your statement, it just ends up in a discursive us vs them argument A lot of Sound and Fury and in the end....well you know the rest.
"Are you able to drop it, so to speak, and leave it behind when you go home at the end of the day or does it follow you home? We watch for this very carefully amongst our own ranks you know, and take rather strong measures to counter it in our work groups. I wonder if you do the same, or if you even have such a mechanism in your ranks?"--I'm nearly speechless. Do you all really watch and monitor your biological responses? Are you all of one concerted mind and body, robotic, programmed? I don't buy that for a minute.
"we only distinguish ourselves from the Left by the power we wield. We conclude that this is the mirror you folks on the left are incapable of looking into."--like I said to Bushrod, the amazing confidence by which you speak for millions is amusing. I would never presume to speak for, or make predictions and assumptions on the blanket behalf of the collective "left." Nor do I view society in such binaries.
Goesh, the return of your comments and blatantly land-mined posts make me feel like I do when I accidentally bite into moldy bread. That same surprise and dismay.
