Cindy Sheehan Vigils

Last night my partner and I joined about 185 other folks at the vigil at Eastport Plaza (Portland, Oregon). Having attended most of the anti-war rallies in Portland since before the invasion of Iraq, I was surprised at the number of faces that I did not recognize. Anecdotally, it looked like new people are mobilizing in support of Cindy Sheehan and against the war in Iraq. Even more surprising was the response of people driving by. I was amazed by the number of honkers and wavers. Honkers out numbered those shaking their fists or giving us the finger by about 20 to one. This is indeed a "sea change."

Portland Independent Media has an area report and a brief video of a Portland Vigil. Did you attend a vigil last night? Please share your experience.

Rowan: I went to SW Capitol and Barbur in excess of 100 people showed, these were not wild eyed peaceniks, these were young families, people my age (58), young people etc. The horn response was about 75% positive ! I was very impressed and pleased.

I was dissapointed that no TV crew came by, and the coverage is minimal at best,"We shall overcome"

PEACE
