Drat Those Folks With Loose Lips
Two bits of news worth noting this morning in the ongoing saga of lies and deception. First is an extensive investigation by Bob Drogin and John Goetz of the LA Times on the "saga of Curveball" (also available here). The short version is that the CIA and Bush administration knew that "Curveball's" information was not credible, but used it as a primary source for making the case to invade Iraq. This is an extensive article with a time line of events attached.
The second revelation comes from the Daily Mirror via Al Jazeera. net - Memo: Bush wanted Aljazeera bombed. Yet another memo from Downing Street has surfaced detailing a conversation between Bush and Blair on April 16, 2004. The transcript (five pages long) records Bush wanting to bomb Al Jazeera's headquarters in Doha, Qatar. Blair was resistant to the idea because Qatar was an ally.
A British government employee has been charged for releasing the confidential document.
There is apparently an attempt to spin Bush's suggestion as a joke, but another source says that it was "deadly serious."
Oh the things that are revealed when the tide turns.
