Terror Plot Foiled?
Last night (in the U.S.) the UK initiated a critical alert at airports in response to a possible plot to blow up commercial airplanes in flight out of the UK. The focus is on the possibility of liquid explosives which has caused a restriction on virtually all carry-on liquids in both the UK and the US. Apparently, the UK informed Bush "earlier in the week" of the threat. It is not clear, but it seems the current response was set in motion by a possible attack on a flight out of Qatar. According to the Reuters' report, passengers and stewards stopped an Eritrean man trying to get into the cockpit of a Qatar Airlines plane. The plane returned safely to Amman, Jordan.
The security measures are dramatically slowing air traffic out of the UK, and increased security is dramatically slowing passenger movement in the US. Similar measures in terms of not allowing liquids and gels in carry-on luggage is being enforced in both countries. At this time, no flights within the US have been canceled, but the UK has had some cancellations, and is requesting that if people do not have to fly that they not do so at this time.
Bush is continuing his vacation schedule while the crisis continues.
