Trying To Start a Conflict?
Looking at the news regarding Iran and Syria, I have to wonder if the plan isn't to try and goad a response that could legitimate an attack by the U.S. (and/or Israel) on either one - or both. Certainly Israel's demand for "peacekeepers" along the Syrian-Lebanon border is not being well received. Likewise, the continued non-engagement with Iran by the U.S., while pushing for concessions Bush knows will be rejected, only strengthens Iran's status, and not the U.S.'
Given all the conflict and thorny issues in Lebanon/Syria/Israel, one might think that the heavy hitting diplomatic power might be thrown into the mix. However, that is apparently not the case. Instead, the U.S. "top diplomat" (on Africa), to the Sudan. Who, exactly, is the "top diplomat" on the Middle East? Somehow I doubt that it is Dr. Rice (a Russian specialist). I think she must be taking a break because I haven't heard a peep about her in a week.
While a "truce" may have been declared, the situation in the Middle East is far from peaceful. It is a tinder box, and there are a lot of sparks flying around it.
