Bush Banks On Lame Ducks
Bush is counting on the lame duck session of the Republican dominated Congress to pull his bacon out of the fire. He got part of his agenda, as well as some cover for crimes against humanity, with the passage of the Military Commissions Act and the 2007 Defense Authorization. However the Republicans have things to take care of before they exit stage right.
What business?
1. Rewrite the wiretap laws so that Bush is not on the wrong side of the law with his sweeping surveillance methods.
2. Open up off shore oil drilling (got to make sure the hog keeps rolling).
3. Extend, or make permanent, those wealth shifting tax breaks.
4. Approve a separate trade agreement with Vietnam (I'm not sure what the stake is in this - still searching).
5. Give those nukes to India.
6. Get Bolton approved, and any outstanding court appointments.
7. Get those pork barrel "ear marks" into any bill that goes through.
Busy time for the Republicans. Dangerous times for us.
