Who Is Mike McConnell?

For some unknown reason Negroponte is moving over to the State Department to be the top deputy to Rice. This would seem to be a demotion for Negroponte, but perhaps Rice will be moving on at some point. Replacing him as National Intelligence Director will be Vice Admiral (Ret.) Mike McConnell. Some digging shows that the McConnell assignment is yet another example of "keeping it in the family."

Mike McConnell was the head of the NSA (National Security Agency) from 1992-1996. He was also VP of Booz Allen Hamilton - a "strategy consulting group." He also served as a primary advisor to the Secretary of Defense who happened to be Dick Cheney, who served his tenure at the Pentagon under George H.W. Bush.

McConnell was also heavily involved with the Joint Intelligence Centers (1). And it was Desert Storm, and McConnell who appear to have reimplemented the organization.

Now to back up to Booz Allen Hamilton for a moment ... A "notable employee" was Jonathan S. Bush. Jonathan is George W's first cousin.

It is amazing to me how incestuous it all seems to be. I know about the six degrees of separation. However, in the current administration it seems to be more like one degree of separation.
