Un-President's Day

Carolyn Baker has a nice article over at Speaking Truth to Power titled Un-President's Day: Until you change how money works, you change nothing. In the article, Baker aptly labels the US economic system as a "tapeworm" economy, and recommends focusing on a decentralized and localized system. She argues, and I agree, that a revolt against "the system" is unlikely with the majority of people dependent and indebted to it.

Baker essentially argues that the current economic structure disempowers democracy. Others have argued that it undermines democracy. That is a major part of the push behind campaign finance reform. However, Baker's article addresses how to transform our personal and community economic entanglement.

She raises pertinent and important points. I encourage folks to read it. It is not very long and has a lot of meat.
