Iraqi sexual cleansing continues

Perhaps it should be no surprise that 2 years after Ayatollah Al-Sistani issued his fatwa calling for the death of gays and lesbians, that nothing has changed. The United States does not seem to have moved on this issue at all, and General Pace's recent public airing of his sentiments on homosexuality may indicate why the U.S. turns a blind eye to the Iraqi pogrom against gays and lesbians (or those assumed to be).

The evidence indicates that both the Iraqi government as well as the militias have taken the sexual cleansing of Iraq to heart. I have seen nothing that indicates the United States is taking any kind of a stand on this. In fact, it seems that U.S. troops have been told to look the other way.

Why is it that the lives of gays and lesbians, the lives of minorities, the lives of women are not seen as important? Why do pogroms against certain groups seem to fall under some issue of sovereignty?

What is happening in Iraq with both government and death squads targeting gays and lesbians should be more than a political base argument in the United States. Do our elected representatives feel that homophobia is politically powerful enough that intervening in the systematic murder of people would lose them votes and support? Why the silence?

We have learned over and over again that "silence is death." It is past time for the United States - who has gays and lesbians on the ground in Iraq - end its silence on this pogrom.

(Oh yeah, the military has its own silence rule doesn't it - "Don't ask don't tell?"

"Oh, and by the way, I had a dream last night in which GOD spoke, saying to me, 'Holy Crap, Son, I've made a huge mistake letting Pat Robertson, James Kennedy, and their ilk eaves drop on my chess games in the Park thinking they might actually learn something, but they've gone off on more of their so-called 'prophetic pilgrimages,' during which the SOBs 'cannot be reached!' If the idiots would actually talk to me, we could straighten all this out in a fortnight, otherwise they will end up screwing up even more millions than they have already! See what you can do!'" - Dudley, in The Weekly Roomer

"For what it's worth, God also mentioned attempts to contact individuals at the Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, but no one answers...just a suspicious busy signal! Fountain seems to have gone altogether dead! Same thing in Wilkes Barre, Penn. Huh!? Real Swift, guys!" - Dudley
