Greensumption

The International Forum on Globalization has released a short video on the false solution of going "green" while maintaining or increasing consumption. It does an excellent job of addressing a number of myths.

Excellent ! The primary song in the background was Dave Brubecks "Take Five" and a lot of people need to "Take Five" and stop consumption period ! This vid was like taking a trip thru N.W. Portland, The Pearl, if you know what I mean.

I agree Bill. It also sounds like a lot of my students and co-workers. All we need to do is switch to "alternatives" and we can continue to consume at ever increasing rates. There will be some technological breakthrough that will save us. Yada yada.

Drives me nuts, and I thought the video addresses a lot of that. Though I worry that those who believe the above will see only that part of the video.

Much like the "fat free" food fads of yesteryear, that just added a ton of salt and sugar to the foods, and 'encouraged' people to consume at higher rates- it still did not solve the problem- and exacerbated other problems like food/sugar addictions.
Attitudes of "if I use more, I save more" seems like an oxymoron to me. If I buy nothing at all, I don't spend anything at all.

Still grappling for viable solutions that do not appear to solve one problem while exploiting and worsening others.
