Congratulations Al

I offer my heartfelt congratulations to Al Gore for receiving the Nobel Prize. I think that it was spot on to say that he has been the single most visible person on bringing this issue to global attention and action. (Thanks to the hard work of the thousands who have been involved in the IPCC studies who share the award with AL Gore.)

There are many who want Al Gore to jump into the 2008 presidential race. Some of you may feel that way. While I would certainly support him and think he would make an excellent president, I think he may be more effective where he is doing what he is doing. What are your thoughts? Would you like to see Gore enter the current race? What would you hope he accomplish?

Dear Albert Gore,

while Jimmy Carter was the first President I voted for you both remain my big heroes in your work around the world.
Congratulations!

Can you now call President Carter and the other surviving Nobel laureates to gather together in Burma now to meet with fellow laureate Aung San Suu Kyi?

This is a situation which surely requires direct and timely action from the Nobel Peace Prize community. We must be able to respond faster than this or we will forever be on the defensive against such oppression.

You guys have the world watching and need to strike now.
I know that you must have each others telephone numbers.

Aside from her years under house arrest and in prison, as a fellow Nobel Peace Prize winner Aung San Suu Kyi is under intense pressure by the brutal junta to meet with them under their conditions, and therefore legitimize their massacre of the people and monks. The junta continues to spin and deny this heinous assault on human rights with rallies and expensive PR.

What is the point of having the Peace Prize if y'all can't come to the aid of a fellow laureate who is imprisoned for being democratically elected?
If this illegal junta can get away with this then why can't any other regime imprison any one of you?
If you don't believe me then go and ask them. Demand a meeting with your fellow Nobel Laureate. Now.

Please gather together all of you Nobel laureates and go to Burma and visit Aung San Suu Kyi,
demand justice for the people there, before we have to demand justice for all of you over here.
You might give the Dali Lama a holler for this trip too since he's on tour in the US right now.

I don't mean to sound flippant but if you guy's can't stand up to this now, then we are all lost...Foxtrot Uniform Bravo Alpha Romeo!

Thank you again for your hard work,
écrasez l'infâme
from the back hand path!

Al needs to stay right where he is. It takes money and lots of it, under the current system, and free lunches don't exist. I would like to seem him form some sort of group with top leaders Jimmy Carter et al, and do the things are reps in congress are suppose to do but can't because they all made deals with the devil.

Post Script: Marilyse labyrinth sums it up much better, I always look forward to her "cartoons" and articles.

I too think we need Al right where he is for now. He has much more power on the most critical issue we face from the outside, than hamstrung as a president. If he chose to run, then I would certainly vote for him, but it would split the Dem party I am sure.

I also agree on Marilyse. A picture is truly a book with her.
