The Flooding In Centralia, Washington
While Portland largely escaped the flooding from the recent monster storm, many places did not. Among them was Centralia, Washington. Check out this slide show of a boat tour around Centralia. It was posted on The Daily News Online.
Thanks to Shawna for sending the link to me.

Note that these photos were taken of a swampy wetland area in Chehalis that natives to Centralia/Chehalis knew better than to build anything on, but a seasonally used airstrip for private charter planes. It floods there every year. With all the 'progress,' that water has to find somewhere else to go, literally. So homes that had never flooded before, flooded this year. Also, a dam was created somewhere I am unaware of that diverts water as well, creating more flood hazards in atypical areas.
Ironically, in this flood plain, a Home Depot was built- one of the biggest retailers of home repair and building materials. Since it is a chain store, I imagine they will bounce back quickly enough to provide business for people who now have to repair or rebuild their homes.
