Who Wins, Oil or Arctic?

Whether to open the Chukchi Sea to exploratory oil drilling now rests in the hands Secretary of the Interior Dirk Kempthorne. He plans on opening 20 million acres of the Chukchi Sea for leasing on February 6, 2008. The Chukchi and Beaufort seas are the home of almost one-fifth of the global polar bear population. Of course the polar bear is not the only creature at stake, but it has become the iconic image of the global warming endangered arctic.
