Open Comment - Religion in Politics

I'd like to know how folks feel about the injection of religion into politics. This campaign (including the Republicans before settling on McCain) has had way too much religious inquiry and debate for my comfort level. From debates to hosting a Conscience Forum to last night's debate between Obama and Clinton, it seems like queries and interrogation of candidate's religious beliefs has been on parade. Am I just being over sensitive, or have we turned some corner in the religious "testing" of presidential candidates? If this is "OK" for Presidential candidates, what about all others who run for public office?

I am a firm believer of the separation of church and state. I quit attending church services when the political arena seemed to overwhelm their religious agendas. Plus some of the legalisms that each denomination seems to add to or take away from the book they use to further their agendas.

Religion in politics in also in contradiction of our supposed religious freedom. How long before people are ostracized for being agnostic, muslim, hindu, buddhist, or something else other than christian? How long before people are killed for their religious differences? Which christian denomination is going to take the forefront?

It scares me to think of this reality. While I believe in God, I don't believe in forcing religion on any person. God gave us free will for a reason and wants people to choose on their own without coercion.
I can name wars that have been started based on religious differences... like we need another world war... ready for it?

I went around and asked the youth in my living room. They all claim defiance at being ruled by religious leaders. I think we need to teach our children how to oppose this type of oppression, before the war starts.
