The Bush administration takes a loss (for now) on it challenge of the Presidential Records Act. The administration was sued by Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington (CREW) for trying to narrow the definition of what records Dick Cheney needs to reveal. The administration wanted to narrow the records to those from the Vice President's Office. However, a federal judge ruled that a broader range of records must be preserved. The suit arose out of Cheney's claim that the Vice President's office is a separate hinterland of government that is not part of either the executive or legislative branch of government.
