Wednesday, January 11, 2006, Camp Lejeune, N.C. - The Commanding General of the Marine Corps Base, Camp Lejeune, N.C. has order the immediate Administrative Discharge of Jerry Texiero. Jerry is being moved from the brig to Camp Lejeune's Separation Barracks for processing out of the Marine Corps.

BY: JACK DALTON

In its push to hold Jerry Texiero out as an example to those in today's military (to dissuade them from walking away from another of this country's unnecessary and created wars), the Marine Corps is breaking every law on the books.

Case in point: Yesterday afternoon, LTC Annita Best, spokesperson for the Marine Corps at Camp Lejuene, N.C., took it upon herself to pick up a telephone and start calling newspapers releasing confidential information from Jerry's personnel files.

"Military men are just dumb stupid animals to be used as pawns in foreign policy." Henry Kissinger as quoted in the book "Kiss the Boys Goodbye".

Just when was it we in this nation lost our ability to choose if and when we would be willing to kill another human being, or be killed ourselves? When was it that following the "rules" became more important than following what is right? Case in point: Jerry Texiero; who as an active duty Marine in 1965 refused to deploy to Vietnam and took off (For details see: Marine Refuser From 40 Years Ago Faces Court Martial). 40 years later the Marine Corps has Jerry incarcerated at the Marine Corps Base, Camp Lejeune, N.C.

"There is a time when the operation of the machine becomes so odious, makes you so sick at heart, that you can't take part; and you've got to put your bodies upon the gears and upon the wheels, upon the levers, upon all the apparatus and you've got to make it stop." - Mario Savio

For some months now I have been writing back and forth to a gentleman in Iraq, Bassim. He's a Civil Engineer and father. He struggles to raise his family in Baghdad. The daily bombings by U.S. war planes are running between 20 and 30 per day; and they are increasing, make surviving the day an act of heroism.

"Those who believe a police state can't happen here are poor students of history. Every government, democratic or not, is capable of tyranny. We must understand this if we hope to remain a free people." (Ron Paul, R-TX)

There is a lot of political rhetoric coming from the Democratic Party about the "culture of corruption" within the Republicans in congress and the White House. While there is a culture of corruption within the Republican Party, the Democratic Party has absolutely nothing to hoot about! They have been at the "feed trough" for as long as the Republicans. One party with two different names the way I see it. Just the investigation on and around Jack Abramoff is in itself enough to confirm that. Mostly congressional Republicans were on his "payroll" but Democrats are in the mix as well.

"I have learned from first hand experience that war is the destroyer of all that is good in the world. It turns our young into soulless killers and we tell them they are "heroes" when they master the art of killing." Conscientious Objector and Prisoner of Conscience, Sgt Kevin Benderman

t has been said of Sgt. Kevin Benderman by those in command and control at Ft. Stewart, GA., after Kevin publicly announced his refusal to deploy to Iraq a second time, that his action was "endangering" those from FT. Stewart who would be deploying to Iraq. Officers at FT. Stewart, as well as some senior NCO's (non-commissioned officers for you non military types) along with the Hawks in the blogging community, were incessant in their condemnation of Kevin; with all of them articulating the same theme of how Kevin was endangering those who would go to Iraq by his [Kevin's] refusal to go. Kevin is now in a military prison for the next 15 months. (For full details and timeline on and about Kevin's position as a Conscientious Objector, trial and subsequent events, I strongly urge you to see: Benderman Timeline )

"It's about time we got you guys off welfare." That's what I was told by a good loyal supporter of this Bush/Cheney war of choice in downtown Portland. He was sporting one of those "yellow ribbons." I had just left the rally in support of Cindy Sheehan and was on my way home, and those yellow ribbons just really hit me wrong. I had read a report that the V.A. was going to "review" 72,000 disabled veterans' claims who are receiving disability payments for combat related PTSD (Post Traumatic Stress Syndrome) for "fraud." In fact, we were talking about that at the rally today as a lot of us that were there are members of VFP-72 (Veterans for Peace) and combat vets; and this affects us directly. The only "fraud" being perpetuated is the one Bush/Cheney have perpetuated on this nation.

Jonathan was a young man in high school when the Marine recruiter approached him about joining the Marines "Delayed Entry" program. That's where a young person under-age and still in school, with parents permission, can sign on the bottom line, supposedly receive an enlistment bonus, then once out of high school straight off to Boot Camp. That's pretty much how it happened with Jonathan; who is now at the Marine Corps Base, Camp Geiger, N.C. This is the very same base Trent Helmkamp was at, and where he underwent an outrageous ten month ordeal after submitting paperwork as a Conscientious Objector. Not only is Jonathan at the very same base, but he is also in the very same Separation Barracks and under the very same command as was Trent.

Three weeks ago, on July 1st I posted the story of a woman's aunt and uncle that were carted away by agents of the Bush & Co forces: Who Will Be Next? You, Me, Your Neighbor - Who Will BE Next? Now, along with arbitrary civilian arrests, wives of active duty war resisters are also being arrested. Read the following story about Dale and Amy Bertell. Dale was tried and convicted by a military court for "desertion" and sentenced to 4 months in a military prison. His real crime was to protest being sent to a war that was and is being driven by lies and deceptions. The Army not being satisfied with Dales arrest, conviction and incarceration, has arrested his wife, Amy, on the charge of "enticing, abetting a deserter."

The single greatest "hostile" takeover of a nation is under way, and it is our nation. Thanks to the unbelievable growth of Wal-Mart, more of what the consumer here purchases is being made in China, while U.S. jobs continue to disappear. This nation is now in serious debt to China. At the same time China is experiencing huge national growth which means they need an increasing amount of oil to provide the energy to fuel its growth. China is now exceeded only by the U.S. in its "need" for more oil.

[The five Congressman are: Steny Hoyer (D-Maryland) Sponsor, Howard Berman (D-Ca.), Frank Pallone (D-NJ), Martin Olav Sabo (D-Mn), James Sensenbrenner (R-Ws)] I do not believe it is accurate to present HJ 24 as a Republican resolution. George W. Bush stated in 1999 that he wanted to invade Iraq. He wanted to go down in history as a great American president. Last year during an interview with Tim Russert, Bush told the world that, "I am a war president ... I make all my decisions with war in mind..." For Bush, his road to immortality and greatness was, and still is, thru war; and not just one war, but continuous war.

"You're a f...ing faggot conscientious objector" was what young Trent Helpkamps company 1st Sgt told him - publicly, again. Less than a week after this confrontation with his 1st Sgt, Trent swallowed a handful of pills. After which Trent stated, "I just didn't care if I ever woke up..." By now it is pretty much common knowledge that the DoD - Department of War misnamed Department of Defense - and the Pentagon, thanks to the so-called and misnamed (ALL)No-Child(ern)-Left-Behind Act, are targeting this nations children for enlistment into the military while they are still in school. All personal records for each child on file with every school that receives federal funds must be made available to the military recruiters at that school. Any and all schools that violate that by not making the records available, according to the "law" will lose their federal funding.

Thanks to the recently released "memos" between the BushCo camp and the Blair "brigade" there is no longer any doubt they "cooked the books" on the intelligence to fit their already in place plans to invade Iraq. For some of us, this is just icing on the cake as there was already a wide body of evidence in the public domain articulating how "intelligence"--and I use that term loosely-- was being deliberately distorted and made to fit pre-determined plans to invade Iraq. Former Secretary of the Treasury, Paul O'Neill, in "The Price of Loyalty" shows as early as February, 2002, a deliberate, concerted effort was being put forth to "justify" -also used loosely- invading Iraq.

John Jay was the first Chief Justice of this nation's newly created Supreme Court. That was in the 1780's. As Chief Justice he made a statement that echo's what we are faced with today: "the people that own the country ought to rule the country." That right there, at least from where I sit, is the "battle" we are in right now. That “fight” over who will rule the nation was ramped up in 1886, when a Supreme Court Clerk, John Davis, added a forward to a Supreme Court decision in Santa Clara County vs. Southern Pacific Railroad, which in effect declared the "personhood" of corporations. As the case had nothing to do with corporate personhood but was a taxation issue, Davis waited over a year, until the Justice that wrote the opinion in the case died, before he published the document. It has been a downhill slide ever since. (See: Thom Hartman's Unequal Protection)

This March 19th is the two year "anniversary" of the Bush and Company war of choice in Iraq. To put it another way, it's the anniversary of the unleashing of war in "perpetuity" or, as Gore Vidal aptly named it, "Perpetual War for Perpetual Peace." For six months prior to the invasion of Iraq, and subsequent occupation, if not longer, George W. Bush, Dick Cheney, Condi Rice, Donald Rumsfeld, et al, conducted a "marketing campaign" to sell their "product" with all the fervor of a corporation introducing a "new" product or brand.

For those of you that are regular readers of the POAC and Uncommon Thought you will remember the piece on anti-recruitment I sent out on the action alerts this past Saturday, "Anti-Recruitment Efforts Needed Now More Than Ever" (UTJ). In it I simply stated how and why I believe this needs to be taking place on a grand scale. In it, I also pointed my finger pretty hard at the Bush administration, due to the fact it is he and his circle of friends that occupy the seat of power currently. Also a fact is that the Bush administration is the most secretive in this nation's history so based on that I felt is very appropriate to point my finger at them, and will continue to do so. It is also the most openly corporate owned administration in the nation's history exceeding even that of Grant which was owned by the railroad companies at the time.

This is not isolated to just Portland, as every state in the nation is faced with federal funding cuts, and cut severely, necessitating even more school closures around the country. If there is one thing I understand it is simply this, once one "sees" war up close and personal and you look into the abyss, that "Heart of Darkness" of war; you are forever changed--period. Some become very self-defensive and become strong supporters of war - what else can they do? If they do not support war then they would be compelled to revisit "war" and come to terms with it. That in itself shakes the very foundations of one's beliefs, and this is something a lot of people just do not want to do, or are unwilling to do; it hurts like hell!

The level of nationalism, xenophobia, and mindless hatred has divided this nation even worse, in some ways, than what I remember taking place during the civil rights and anti-war movements during the 1960's. The "my country right or wrong" and "love it or leave it" hysteria today makes the past pale in comparison in many, many ways.

Bush unleashed the "Dogs of War" on Iraq last year, and right after an emerging insurgency started growing, Bush asked, "What's the matter with those people; don't they know how good we [Americans] are?" And that right there is at the heart of what I see as a very big problem with so very many of my fellow American citizens - and one that in many ways is getting worse and not better.

While attention is focused on the unmitigated disaster the Bush/Cheney war of choice in Iraq has caused, the economy is headed for big trouble as this "war" has caused massive increases in the nations debt load. Additionally, the knee-jerk response by congress with the so-called "Patriot Act" has accomplished nothing in terms of securing the nation. What it has done is heap more criminal law on an already redundant body of criminal law. Criminalization over security, pure and simple.

Well, here we are again. Fiscal year 2005 and no budget for the Department of Veterans Affairs. To make matters worse, there are Bush/Cheney republican cheerleaders in congress that want to hold the proposed V.A. budget at 2004 levels. That makes sense, to keep a budget that was grossly under funded and apply it to a new year that has seen a massive influx of new veterans seeking help and medical care, mostly from the first Gulf war and this current war of choice in Iraq.

The accumulation of all powers, legislative, executive, and judiciary, in the same hands, whether of one, a few, or many, and whether hereditary, self-appointed, or elective, may justly be pronounced the very definition of tyranny. ~ James Madison, Federalist Paper 47

For the past three years Bush and company have been consistent in their pontification of how liability lawsuits are forcing Doctors out of the medical profession, and how liability lawsuits are creating an un-necessary and unfair financial burden on corporate America. Both of which, by all accounts, are false. Doctors are not being forced out of practicing medicine as it is the ones guilty of medical malpractice that are getting nailed with lawsuits, generally speaking. Medical liability insurance even in the states with liability caps are still on the increaselawsuits are not raising the insurance rates, greedy insurance companys are raising rates and it has not a thing to do with liability lawsuits.
